Free HotSpot Wifi Internet Access at Starbucks
  2/12/2009 10:08:31 AM

For a while now, T-Mobile has been offering HotSpot Wifi Internet access at Starbucks.  The problem for most is how much we all end up having to pay for it.  So many places are offering free internet access now.  It's surprising that 1, At&T will take over this service, and 2, they still want to charge people for it.

Well, AT&T/Starbucks is now offering something, which is essentially free internet access.

You can either purchase the Starbuck's Gold for $25 and get a bunch of other discounts and stuff, or use any Starbuck's gift card.  They both work the same way.

By registering online, and turning that generic gift card into a Starbuck's Rewards card, you will get 2 hours of free Wifi access per day.  The nice thing is you can walk into Starbuck's, pay $5 for a gift card, then use that gift card to pay for your drink, register, and get on with your browsing all in the same day!  In fact, I just did that last week!

For those of you that spend more than $250/year at Starbucks, it might be worth it for you to purchase the Gold since it gives you 10% off purchases in addition to free flavoring syrups.

If you can get a group of 5 people together to chip in, Costco sells a 5X$20 giftcard package for $80.  That's 20% off.

Now if you are a serious user, you can purchase the giftcards from Costco, and use them to pay for the Gold membership and the discounted drinks.  That makes it a total of 28% discount!

The best of all, on top of all this discount...  Free Wifi!!

Just added some credit to my card the other day and got my usual Venti Americano.  Back online.

Bit of update on this...

I just went to Starbucks a couple nights ago.  Since I have not used my gift card for over 30 days, my online access was revoked.  I will try to buy something with the card, and see if it comes back.

Stay tuned...
